Description
In 1385, the future King of Portugal won a decisive victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota, consolidating the Portuguese nation against the Castilian armies.
In honour of his victory, he erected the Batalha Monastery near the site of his triumph. Some seven centuries later, the monastery that was entrusted to the hands of the Dominicans now contains the most important core of Portuguese Medieval stained glass.
Youâll see the impressive windows in the main chapel and the chapter house, as well as a 32.5-meter-tall central nave with eight columns on each side. This religious masterpiece is a sight worth beholding.
