Description
Visit the historically significant maritime defensive system
Visit Sagres Fortress, situated on a natural cliff, which was historically significant for maritime defense.
Built in 1443 by Prince Henry the Navigator, key features include parts of the original wall, a cistern tower, a “wind rose,” and the Correnteza exhibition complex. Later additions encompass the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça and the former governor’s house.
Recent renovations added a visitor center and exhibition areas, maintaining both the heritage of the site and its natural setting.
